About the Study

The Dental RECUR trial aims to evaluate whether a new dental service led by dental nurses who have been trained in a brief negotiated interview for oral health (DR-BNI) using motivational interviewing techniques, will be a more cost-effective service than that currently offered in England and Scotland by dentists in dental practices, in reducing the re-occurrence of dental decay within two years in young children with previous dental extractions.

The three year randomised controlled trial is sponsored by Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and is being run in partnership with: Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospital NHS Trust, NHS Tayside, Barts and the London NHS Trust, Barking Kent Community Health NHS Trust and North East London NHS Foundation Trust.
